Monsters is your connection to the dance industry and opportunity to train with the leaders in commercial dance.

Monsters tours the country with its three-day dance workshops instructed by its world renowned faculty of choreographers, plus auditions for thousands of dollars in scholarships, seminars, performance opportunities, freestyle battles, and much more.

As the original all hip hop dance event, Monsters offers instruction and networking with the industry's best, and provides dancers with real opportunities you can't get anywhere else!

THE MONSTERS SHOW

Highlighting an Adult Cast, Teen Cast (NEW), & Kids Cast.

*Due to Covid, Cast selections for the Monsters 20th Anniversary Show will be comprised of the last 3 years of Intermediate (Kids) & Advanced (Adult) Show Nominees. For this reason we have decided to add a Teen Cast! All Cast selections and placement will be at the discreation of the choreographers and whoever is Directing the 20th Anniversary Show as they work together to assemble the biggest Show Cast in Monsters history. Stay tuned.

CLUB STYLZ SHOWCASE •

Club Stylz Showcase & Freestyle Battle is our all age appropriate, alcohol-free dance show held Saturday evening at Monsters events.

  • Group Showcase Performances with Faculty Critiques

    Here’s your opportunity to be seen by and receive feedback from the Industry’s top choreographers. The Club Stylz Showcase is a non-competitive and very supportive environment where your dancers can perform without the pressure of a competition.

    Groups will receive a video of their performance with feedback from our faculty, as well as written critiques at the end of the convention. Unique to Monsters Dance!

    We offer a limited number of Showcase spots for groups participating in the convention to perform, first come, first served. Must be paid in full to secure your spot. All performing dancers must be registered for the same weekend's convention classes.

    SPACE IS LIMITED - FIRST COME - FIRST SERVED

    Fees of $40* per dancer apply to Showcase performers and Freestyle Battle participants.

    Club Stylz showcases reserved for groups of four (4) or more dancers. Limit one (1) routine per group unless bringing fifty (50) or more dancers. ***3 minute maximum.

    • Individual freestyle battles for cash prizes & more for all levels!

    • Parents freestyle battle to win Monsters Dance scholarships!

    The ability to freestyle is an important part of being a successful dancer & we're giving you the opportunity to practice & show your moves. Dancers can sign up to battle in the level they are registered for - Junior, Intermediate & Advanced/Industry - with cash prizes awarded per level!

    Dancers will dance to music provided by our Club Stylz DJ & rounds will be decided by our Monsters Dance Faculty Choreographers. Limited number of spots per Freestyle Battle Level, first come, first served.

MONSTERS A-LIST •

Monsters A-List Competition focuses solely on commercial hip hop dance, with entries for Solos, Duos, Trios, Small & Large Groups to compete & win!

Competitions are held in select cities on our annual tour. The competition is held on Friday & Saturday evenings as part of the full weekend convention.

Competitors receive recorded audio critiques from our professional hip hop Faculty, plus placement awards, specialty awards, and overall top prizes!

Please note: All competitors must be registered for the convention.

  • AGE DIVISIONS

    Average age of dancers used for group pieces.

    • 8 & Under

    • 9-12

    • 13-16

    • 17 & Older

    • Style/Execution | 25 points

    • Staging/Formations | 25 points

    • Choreography/Musicality | 25 points

    • Overall Impression (appearance, performance, crowd appeal) | 25 points

    PERFORMANCE GENRE

    That’s right folks - just one genre! Commercial Hip Hop (or New School) is welcome but versatility is encouraged (i.e. street jazz, house, funk styles, etc).

    Routines can incorporate commercial dance styles including various forms of hip hop dance, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, acrobatics, etc. but at least one style of hip hop dance* (i.e. street jazz, house, funk styles, etc) must be included.

    *Hip hop dance refers to dance styles, mainly street dance styles, primarily danced to hip hop music, or that have evolved as a part of the hiphop culture.

  • HOW TO ENTER

    New to competing? NO PROBLEM. All dancers and groups welcome - no invitation or qualification needed! Great for the hungry dancer looking to grow, as well as the seasoned dancer looking to show off their skills for professional feedback, placement awards, and cash prizes!

    FINALE QUALIFIER

    Come compete at our Los Angeles Tour Finale Competition!

    Routines placing first, second or third at a regional A-List event qualify for 50% off to compete same routine again in LA! Please contact our office to apply your discount.

    Didn't compete at a regional A-List event or place in the top 3? NO PROBLEM. Compete ANY routine at our LA Finals (no qualification necessary*) - sign up available when registering for the convention! *Fees may vary.

    LA Finals will include BIGGER cash prizes and MORE live feedback from our professional Choreographer Judges!

  • PLACEMENT AWARDS

    We are bringing REAL competition back. While all routines will be judged and given feedback from our distinguished panel of judges, only the top 3 in each category and age division will receive placement awards. The 3 highest scoring routines overall will be awarded a cash prize.

    OUTSTANDING CHOREOGRAPHY AWARD

    This award recognizes the competition’s most creative and versatile choreographer.

    JUDGES' CHOICE ENTERTAINMENT AWARD

    The most entertaining or show-stopping routine of the entire competition will be awarded the Entertainment Award!

  • MUSIC

    All music must be clean, edited and appropriate for audiences of all ages. Music must be uploaded to your account 1 week prior to the event for pre-approval.

    *$10 late penalty fee charged if music is not submitted on time.

    PROP USAGE

    Any props must be approved by our Monsters A-List team prior to use and must be set and removed within 30 seconds prior to and after the routine by the competing group. Judges may take excessive set-up or removal time into consideration with potential deduction in scoring.

    If the stage is “littered” during a routine, please be prepared to clean it up immediately after the routine is finished.

    The following items are prohibited: use of fire, weapons, alcohol or drug paraphernalia, fog machines and/or hazers, liquids or messy materials, animals, etc.

    KEEP IT IN THE HIP HOP FAMILY

    Footwear must be worn! Bare-feet dancers / routines are subject to disqualification.

    KEEP IT CLEAN

    At Monsters events we appreciate the wide range of personal expression and creativity offered by different styles and choreography. While we do not wish to stifle anyone’s artistic voice, Monsters A-List is a family event and inappropriate routines will be penalized. A total of 10 points will be deducted from any routine that the judges find not to be "family friendly.” Disqualification is at the Judges' discretion.

    OTHER POLICIES

    All competing dancers must be registered for the entire workshop.

    Entry Fees are non-refundable, no exceptions. All competing dancers receive a Monsters A-List participation pin and professional feedback from our Judges.

    Cash, money orders, checks and credit cards will be accepted for your competition and/or convention registration. All payments must be received 14 days prior to the event. Checks must be received no later than 5 business days prior to the event date. No checks at the door.
